A beautiful story:
Of a simple fortress that became
an enchanting castle
If you look closely at the Schloss today, with an enthusiasm for the historic, you can still discover parts of the old fortress walls. And this is where the story begins, for the Schloss was first built as a fortress by Albrecht the Bear in 1161. Stylistic details, for example, from the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the Baroque eras still tell the story today of the many expansions to the Schloss that were made over the centuries. The nobility of Watzdorf in the19th century were the first to extend the Schloss and give it the eye-catching appeal it has today. The most recent chapter of the story began with the complete redevelopment of the Schloss, which has spanned the last few years. This work has breathed new life into the historic walls of the Schloss and the residents are benefiting from it immensely. These walls are surrounded by a unique Schloss park that also have a long history and are lovingly cared for by the State of Brandenburg. The view of the Schloss from the park is such that you can hear passers-by saying "enchanting".
